At first I was just unabashedly excited about this trailer. A new Bhansali film is an event. I didn’t know the historical back story in full. I didn’t know the tragic ending — should have guessed Bhansali would pick a story with a tragic ending.
Then I read Margaret’s reaction to the trailer, and I saw just how demonic and crazed they are making the Muslim king played by Ranveer. This film could have been told in a very different way than what this trailer shows us. I’m very conflicted now. I can’t miss the problems now that she’s pointed out the issues. I said Ranveer looks like Rasputin. And that’s on purpose.

I agree, Melanie! I’m having the same issue. My initial excitement leading up and including a really well-done trailer has now been overshadowed by the problematic portrayal. But you should go read Asmita’s recent comments. She has a good perspective on things that made me feel better about my conflicted feelings as a fan of Bhansali’s work, too.

Oh, THANK YOU for pointing out Asmita’s comments. I am going to give Bhansali the benefit of the doubt and judge the work after seeing it. I’ve always liked his movies much more than Margaret.
Baahubali also had its issues with the literal blackface of the orc-like villains, and I still love that movie.

I read 2 days ago that Punjabi singer-actor Jassi Gill will be making his debut in its sequel. I am upset with it. He is a good singer but a bad actor. His movies have been flop bar one (that too was because of movie’s heroine).
His songs are good
I am also upset that he gets to make his bollywood debut before Amrinder Gill. There is no logic behind it. Amrinder Gill is a better singer. more popular among Punjabis and much better actor than Jassi Gill. I think that u are aware of Amrinder Gill.Are u?
